The 2027 venues

In the former Foreign Settlement, the artworks will centre on the plaza in front of the Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Kobe head office building, with linked light-ups around the Settlement and Shinko-cho to encourage walking between venues. Entry rules for the venues other than Meriken Park will become clear when the full programme is published.

Planning tips

  • It is an outdoor event on late-January evenings: dress warmly.
  • Booking a hotel? Check the cancellation terms, since lighting hours are not yet known.
  • Watch the official news page for the advance-ticket release, lighting hours and traffic plans.

Why Kobe lights up every winter

Luminarie began in December 1995 to remember the victims of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake that January and to carry hope for the city’s recovery. The 32nd edition keeps that purpose. In May 2026 a new “Bell of Hope” was made to pass the memory of the earthquake to the next generation; it will ring at the venue alongside the original bell.

We will update this page when the lighting hours and artworks are announced.
